We started as a tomato house, but over the past 30 years, Veg-Fresh Farms has invested in numerous growing partnerships with many growers in the California and Mexico regions to expand our portfolio of commodities. This includes our melon program out of Firebaugh, CA, onions out of Lancaster, CA, strawberries out of Santa Maria, CA, citrus out of Redlands, CA, peppers out of Sinaloa, and of course, a robust tomato, pepper program out of Ensenada, Culiacan, and Sayula, MX. These partnerships allow us to offer consistent year-round supply on an incredible amount of items. 

Before we started this business in 1989, our family worked in the produce industry in Southern California for decades alongside our fathers, uncles, and mentors (who became family to us).  It’s with them that we learned this industry from the ground up, and it’s those learning lessons that we impart on future generations that have joined the business. Working as a family means one person is not more important than the other — what’s most important is working together to provide customers with excellent service and product.

We are seeking a Controller to join our team in Corona, CA.

Responsibilities:

• Oversight of Accounting Staff to ensure the efficient and compliant execution of accounting functions as per company policies and internal controls.
• Maintenance of balance sheet reconciliations within prescribed schedules and in accordance with company policies.
• Production of financial statements and reports aligned with company timelines and operational requirements.
• Lead the annual audit process and maintaining meticulous records with accordance to GAAP+
• Development and adherence of corporate accounting policies ensuring compliance with GAAP for all financial reporting, while staying abreast of accounting regulation changes.
• Contribution to annual budget formulation and oversight of capital expenditure approvals.
• Assistance to the GL Department during month-end closing procedures when necessary.
• Collaboration with division counterparts to enhance existing financial processes, adopt new technologies, and strengthen internal controls.
• Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements.
• Lead accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL and Counsel, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting and Revenue Recognition.
• Research technical accounting issues for compliance.
• Support month-end and year-end close process.
• Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.

Qualifications & Experience:

• B.S./B.A. degree with a focus in Accounting, Finance or Economics required
• Position requires 5+ years of accounting management experience within a large ($300m+ Revenue) organization
• Proven working experience as a Financial Controller
• Experience with Famous is highly preferred
• Experience in Produce industry preferred

Compensation Range: $140,000 - $160,000
