JOB FILLED - Director of Supply Chain & Operations

Job Description: 

Himalaya Herbal Healthcare, a dietary supplement and personal care company, is seeking an experienced and highly driven Director of Supply Chain & Operations to oversee its supply chain for The Americas region (North & South America) operations. This role will manage all aspects of the supply chain including planning, purchasing, distribution, and inventory management to ensure sales continuity in The Americas Region. Additionally, this role will oversee the operations at Himalaya’s facility in Sugar Land and any outsourced partners. The Director of Supply Chain and Operations will solicit, oversee, and manage third party manufacturing and fulfillment locations. 

In this role, the Director of Supply Chain & Operations will bring his or her experience to bear and chart a course for the organization’s approach to regional outsourced manufacturing. The proper candidate will have experience in the Dietary Supplements Industry, the breadth of experience and the confidence to work independently in high exposure situations with limited oversight along with a desire to be a key player in a growth environment.   

The successful candidate will possess the leadership and communication skills necessary to work in intense collaboration with cross functional teams located in various geographies to develop and execute plans to achieve revenue and profit goals. 

The Director of Supply Chain & Operations will report to the CEO. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Lead supply chain and operations: 

  • Develop and implement an effective strategic supply chain plan.
  • De-risk potential supply shortages and identify and validate secondary source vendors.
  • Responsible for the demand planning and forecast support to maintain healthy inventory levels across all geographies to ensure business continuity.
  • Manage relationships with retail distribution centers globally to ensure accuracy and on time delivery of all retail POs.
  • Monitor Amazon and other e-commerce fulfillment performance to ensure all orders are shipped on time, in-full and within desired service levels.
  • Provide input and intelligence on ingredient sourcing.
  • Support innovation from the supply chain by introducing new and innovative raw material opportunities.
  • Analyze operational data and implement strategies to optimize supply chain.
  • Manage the priorities across teams to ensure successful and timely execution.
  • Manage, monitor, and ensure US market compliance for Federal and State laws including DHSEA, California Prop 65, etc.
  • Represent the organization during various audits including FDA, Texas Department of Health (TDH), Control Union, etc.

Implement score carding & process improvements:

  • Establish a reporting system with clear analysis, KPIs and dashboards to keep all stakeholders apprised of operational status and areas of concern. 
  • Implement processes to mitigate and troubleshoot any after order delivery issues, working with vendors, customers, and relevant stakeholders to amend all issues with minimal impact to cost.
  • Implement policies, procedures, and metrics for vendor selection, supplier score carding, cost of goods sold reduction and other cost savings initiatives.
  • Utilize current reports and lead the creation of new reports to analyze and monitor operational cost and productivity metrics such as fulfillment cost per order, % of orders shipped on time, cost per item produced and LOTIF %.
  • Lead and develop a continuous process improvement program by identifying and establishing yearly goals to make the supply chain/operations department more proactive and efficient. 

Establish domestic sourcing strategy and activation:

  • Identify and develop US vendors to help expand production domestically in the areas of Supplements and Personal Care.
  • Negotiate with US based, or Americas Region based third party ingredient suppliers and manufacturers to ensure cost competitiveness. 
  • Assists with third-party manufacturers for cGMP (21 CFR Part 111) compliance. 
  • Oversee 3PL manufacturing operations and quality control of product.  Works with Quality to ensure third party manufacturing operations are cGMP (21 CFR Part 111) compliant. 
  • Manage and monitor the Supply Agreement and Quality Agreement with third party manufacturers.

Manage operations team members:

  • Directly or indirectly manage current Operations Team including Operations Manager, Inventory Planner, Shipping Supervisor and Warehouse Team.
  • Manage the brands’ operations and supply chain teams to support all business needs.

Collaborate across teams:

  • Work closely with teams responsible for managing internally operated warehouses as well as third-party logistics providers (3PLs).
  • Provide execution support on all Marketing and Sales initiatives and campaigns.
  • Manage the priorities across teams to ensure successful and timely execution.
  • Support offshore suppliers in India and Dubai with frequent updates on sales forecasts and safety stock recommendations.

Competencies:

  • Deep knowledge of FDA DSHEA and cGMP (21 CFR Part 111).
  • Heavy experience and deep knowledge with contract manufacturing models.
  • Demonstrated past and present relationships with ingredient suppliers and third-party manufacturers.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify material cost savings opportunities across the organization. 
  • Ability to maintain excellence and be highly effective working with local and remote teams and coworkers.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management or industrial Engineering; MBA preferred. 
  • 15+ years’ experience in Consumer Goods Supply Chain or Supply Chain Management in the Dietary Supplements Industry.
  • Prior experience with SAP or similar ERP (SAP preferred).
  • Advanced level proficiency with MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Outlook. 
  • Detailed knowledge of planning, purchasing, and manufacturing processes and practices.
  • Experience managing and developing brand operations and supply chain teams in various time zones.
  • Excellent analytical skills and strong financial and business acumen. 
  • Demonstrated success in challenging and ambiguous business situations.
  • Highly collaborative and capable of receiving direction from peers and leaders across functions.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to discern priorities without supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail balanced with a sense of urgency and a commitment to excellence. 
  • Demonstrated excellent written and communication skills.
