Description: Primary Duties/Responsibilities

  • Provide inspired leadership for the operations team including maintaining a harmonious atmosphere and positive work environment
  • Help promote a company culture that encourages top performance and high morale
  • Contribute operations information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; prepare and complete action plans; implement production, productivity, quality and customer-service standards; resolve problems; complete safety and SOP audits; identify trends
  • Prepare an annual budget, schedule expenditures, analyze variances, initiate corrective actions Develop operations systems by determining product handling and storage requirements; develop, implement, enforce, and evaluate policies and procedures; develop processes for receiving bulk ingredients, inventory management, manufacturing products, equipment utilization, and shipping
  • Analyze process workflow, employee and space requirements and equipment layout; implement changes
  • Serve as primary point of contact when there are customer issues related to production; quality assurance procedures, compliance, or accidents and mishaps on-site
  • Maintain a safe, injury/accident free and healthy workplace by establishing, following and enforcing standards and procedures, complying with all legal regulations, OSHA, Fair for Life and B Corp requirements
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations
  • Meet or exceed operations labor budget expectations
  • Communicate job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising and reviewing job contributions
  • Responsible for all operations department managers and supervisors, with review/approval responsibility for all operations employees
  • Establish and approve operational, facility and equipment contracts and pricing and ensuring proper maintenance and serving as primary liaison with utilities and local government agencies, such as fire, police, health and safety agencies.
  • Review and approve all operational invoices and ensure they are submitted for payment
  • Communicate customer issues related to production and shipping with operations team and devise ways of improving the customer experience, including resolving problems and complaints following Fair for Life and B Corp guidelines
  • Work closely with Leadership team to set and execute policies, procedures and systems and to follow through with implementation.
  • Communicate all operating policies and/or issues at department meetings
  • Work closely with the inventory manager and team to perform analysis of our inventory and ensure we are utilizing our inventory effectively, purchasing the right equipment, maintaining solid inventory data and reduce undue expenses
  • Communicate with legal counsel and safety department to ensure all processes remain compliant with OSHA and other governmental regulations
  • Works with SER team to build an environmental management system to reduce our operational environmental impact
  • Adhere to Banyan’s values and social and environmental responsibility principles
  • Read and sign all applicable SOPs
  • Read all relevant machine operation manuals, if applicable
  • Follow all relevant OSHA and FDA regulations, as applicable
  • Manage staff levels, wages, hours, contract labor to revenues
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Dietary supplement manufacturing, familiarity with setting up production lines, purchasing and maintaining equipment

  • Ability to develop, implement and review policies and procedures.
  • Ability to oversee operational budgeting, reporting, and planning.
  • Understanding of necessary legal and regulatory documents.
  • Math skills. Must be proficient with numbers

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, operations management or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience managing operations in dietary/herbal supplements or food manufacturing
  • Experience with FDA regulations, cGMP and USDA Organic certification a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Comfortable learning new software platforms
  • Proficiency/conversational skills in Spanish is helpful.

  • Must be able to detect, inspect, identify operational function of equipment, discern, determine, perceive, identify, recognize, convey, converse with, express oneself and communicate with team members and exchange information with or without accommodation.
  • Sometimes a sedentary position, however, must be able to move, traverse, ascend/descend, and position oneself to access office equipment.
  • Operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, computer printer, fax, scanner and copy machine.
  • Must be able to work around moderate noise level.

Commitment

This is a full-time position based in Ashland, Oregon and requires frequent travel to Albuquerque, New Mexico.
