POSITION OVERVIEW
The Procurement & Planning Manager is responsible for managing supplier relationships, negotiating landed costs within ranges to achieve targeted margin goals, and securing supply of goods per the demand planning schedule. This role will provide day-to-day leadership, skill development and strategic guidance to a small team of buyers and will collaborate with the Product Supply Manager to build and support the product demand schedule.
The Procurement & Planning Manager is responsible for supporting the product supply plan, by managing inbound raw material and outsourced manufacturing. They will navigate SKU-level monthly sales forecasting to ensure adherence to company order fill rate goals. This involves planning material supply to ensure minimal disruption to the manufacturing schedule, while maintaining inventory turn rates in accordance with company goals. This role will work closely with Quality, R&D and Product Development departments on new product launches, new ingredients, and supplier onboarding.
This role is eligible for hybrid on-site status, with a requirement of 3 days on site in San Rafael, CA per week. Employee must be able to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. - Compensation is dependent upon experience: annual salary range $85k - $113k

RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership
- Lead the supply chain with a responsible business mindset
- Manage supply chain schedules and payroll review
- Make decisions that lead to outcomes that support the corporate EBITDA goal
- Establishes and maintains a training schedule with procurement team to coach new skills, create new SOP’s and refresh existing SOP’s
- Maintain existing department KPI’s and develops new KPI’s for the purpose of goal-setting and performance monitoring for the team
- Provide guidance for both day-to-day tactics and a strategic long-term procurement mindset
- Ensure seamless coverage as needed for direct reports
Procurement
- Negotiate pricing and delivery of multi-category items to achieve COGS and inventory turn goals
- Work closely with the Quality Department on vendor qualification
- Ensure the delivery of required product and vendor documentation to Regulatory and Quality departments, assists with maintaining the databases for these documents
- Maintain the market database to help drive strategic procurement decisions based upon business disruption avoidance and landed-cost advantage
- Work closely with the Distribution team to identify the most cost-effective and time efficient method of material movements
- Oversee the management of our 3PLs with Inventory Control and Distribution
- Advocate for responsible business practices – includes origin point, PCR content, delivery method, processing methods, vendor partner sustainability initiatives, etc.
- Prepare for contract negotiations against established baseline volume requirements, and establishes pricing & volume intel to drive negotiation goals
- Keep the Director updated on supplier capacity constraints, and works with the Director to develop risk mitigation strategies
- Maintain core relationships with outsourced manufacturing partners to schedule activity in accordance with partner specialty, optimal quantity and delivery frequency.
- Ensure completion of product launch deliverables
- Oversee and manage the coordination of EO supplier meetings with internal departments. Develop and maintain meeting templates and notes
- Integrate the Distribution and Warehouse group into inbound product supply for the purpose of optimizing space and inventory movements
- Lead team analysis and management of inventory turns by category, and works with the Inventory control team to address slow/non-moving categories
- Manage the procurement of supplies and services for Operations, inclusive of uniform services
Planning
- Utilize forward-looking calendar to establish timing of inbound finished goods in accordance with safety stock buffer and fill rate goals
- Collaborate with the Product Supply Manager on monthly and quarterly bottoms-up forecast review for the purposes of smoothing inbound raw materials and outbound product supply movement
- Serve as the primary back-up to the Product Supply Manager for daily activities as needed
Safety and Other
- Support a safe working environment by reporting any unsafe conditions or observed, unsafe conduct
- Creates infographics, presentations and other visual tools to illustrate KPI progress, trends and general supply chain information
- Supports other projects and tasks as assigned by the Director
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to lead a team and foster a data-driven performance culture
- Extensive knowledge of supply chain, distribution and manufacturing
- Ability to review legal documents, specification sheets, and other technical documentation
- Highly proficient with database systems and ERP programs
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel or Sheets
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Advanced interpersonal skills and ability to interact with people at all levels
- Integrity and discretion in dealing with confidential information
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in closely related field or equivalent industry experience preferred
- 10+ years of experience in supply chain preferred
- 5+ years of experience managing a team preferred
- Previous manufacturing experience strongly preferred
