Job Description: 

Job Summary:

A family-owned harvesting company in Santa Maria is seeking a skilled Payroll Lead to join our team full-time (40 hours per week). The Payroll Lead will be responsible for auditing and verifying all timekeeping records, including employee hours, piece rates, and calculations, prior to payroll processing. This role oversees the complete payroll function, ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant processing of payroll in line with government regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee, maintain, and evaluate payroll processing and systems to ensure accurate payroll transactions, including salaries, wage adjustments, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and deductions.
  • Maintain payroll records by:
  • Collecting daily reports, calculating hours and piece rates, and entering data into payroll software (PET Tiger and Famous).
  • Resolve payroll discrepancies through information collection and analysis.
  • Prepare and manage accurate payroll transaction records and reports.
  • Respond to payroll-related questions and requests, providing timely information.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations and best practices, with a strong knowledge of payroll laws.
  • Proactively identify and recommend updates to payroll systems and procedures.
  • Prepare payroll checks for distribution to employees.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, such as assisting with phone calls and front desk inquiries.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of payroll functions and regulations.
  • Strong analytical skills for information analysis and data entry.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and discretion.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Familiarity with payroll software, Famous software, and PET Tiger is a plus.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-5 years of relevant experience required.
  • Previous experience in an agricultural office setting is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and computer use.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds when necessary.

Compensation:

  • $26.00- $35.00/ hr. DOE & Qualifications
