Job Overview
We are looking for a VP of Sales to provide leadership, direction, and resource stewardship for our direct and broker domestic sales force. This position is accountable for sales organization performance, achievement of sales organization goals, and for aligning sales objectives with our business strategy. This position will lead our sales initiatives and build our portfolio of natural supplement, food, and body care brands and products sold in retail health food stores.

Objectives for the Role

  • Oversee management of direct and broker network retail sales representatives
  • Oversee and proactively manage select domestic retail health food stores and assist as needed in select strategic national accounts
  • Align sales objectives with company business strategy through sales strategy development, forecasting, sales resource planning, and budgeting
  • Be accountable for effective retail sales organization design, including sales position roles and sales resource deployment
  • Meet assigned targets for profitable sales volume, market share, and other key financial performance objectives
  • Lead training and development initiatives for the retail sales team
  • Manage sales performance management system and establishes KPI’s to ensure sales objectives are achieved
  • Provide leadership to direct and broker sales teams while fostering a culture of accountability, professional development, high-performance, and ethical behavior
  • Be accountable for the retail sales organization support budget and proactively assess existing sales organization support investments, including those in technology, training, and administrative support
  • Lead retail sales organization change initiatives by assessing effectiveness of current resources and anticipating future needs
  • Develop and execute strategic business plans to optimize partner relationships and achieve sales goals through increased distribution and velocity gains
  • Utilize internal reports and external data (i.e. SPINS) to identify sales opportunities and achieve sales objectives
  • Ensure all company departments are aligned on sales priorities and vendor requirements
  • Develop and execute promotional initiatives and ensure that timelines are established to exceed vendor expectations
  • Develop and manage trade fund programs to optimize results within budget parameters
  • Work closely with innovation team on new product opportunities
  • Travel as required to meet with sales team, customers and develop relationships to optimize account growth
  • Adhere to company safety policies, procedures, programs, and activities

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year university preferred
  • Significant experience and established relationships within retail health food stores
  • Availability to travel frequently, both scheduled and with short notice
  • Effective in building, leading, and managing a team of professionals located throughout the United States
  • Proficient with verbal and written communication
  • Ability to create, analyze, and interpret reports including industry-specific consumption data
  • Ability to effectively present information (written & oral) to co-workers and customers
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, profit margins, commissions, and percentages
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exits
